Changes in US Customs Regulations for Rough Diamonds

The JVC has announced that effective immediately every shipment of rough imports to the United States must be accompanied by a fax of the Kimberley Process Certification (KPC) to the US Census Bureau. According to the new regulation, a copy of the certificate must be faxed when a shipment enters the US via Customs and Border Protection.

This regulation has been introduced in accordance with the Clean Diamond Trade Act which passed legislation in 2003. The act prohibits "the importation into, or exportation from, the United States on or after July 30, 2003 of any rough diamond, from whatever source, unless the rough diamond has been controlled through the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme."

The US Census Bureau is responsible for compiling and publishing data regarding import and export of diamonds.
