South Africa: Verdict Still Out on 7,000ct Stone

RAPAPORT… Three weeks have passed since the discovery of a so-called 7,000 carat diamond in northwestern South Africa, news reports out of the country are telling of a different story.

News24 reported today the stone may have been found in Zimbabwe and was smuggled into South Africa. The news agency didn`t cite sources.

Due to security concerns very little information on the stone has been revealed so far. Ernie Blom, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, agreed to examine the stone, but no further information has been provided.
